STATEMENT REGARDING CHINESE TEAM NON-PARTICIPATION IN MELBOURNE WORLD CUP

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the local organising committee of the Artistic Gymnastics Individual Apparatus World Cup Melbourne confirm that the Chinese team will not compete at the event which runs from 20-23 February in Melbourne, Australia. The Chinese Gymnastics Association has officially informed the local organising committee that due to the current Australian Government’s travel restrictions relating to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Chinese delegation cannot participate in the World Cup. Qualifications have now wrapped up with Day 2 completed at Melbourne Arena on Friday 22. It was a busy night out on the competition floor on Friday with Men’s Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bars all taking place. The much anticipated Horizontal Bar will be the apparatus to watch on Sunday. Following the same process for Saturday Finals, all the athletes that placed in the top 8 on Friday will be competing on Sunday in the second day and last day of Finals.
